Onpage Optimization is a sub-class of SEO

Execution of optimization techniques on the website itself are called as Onpage optimization. A well Onpage optimized website can not only rank higher in the search results but also can increase the readability of the website for the readers.


There are different factors on website which can be effect the ranking of that website. So with respect to those different factors there are different type of Onpage optimization techniques.They are listed below,


1)Title tag optimization

title tag optimizationTitle tag is one of the most important element. Because title tag is the first thing indexed by the search engine. The title tag should be attractive,short and descriptive enough to identify the content of the page by the visitors. Title tag should contain the keyword on which we are concentrating. Length of the title tag should be with in the limits 55-60 characters and 512 pixels.




2)Meta description

meta descriptionA site’s Meta description should contain a brief description about the website.  And should mention the services of your company. This meta description act as a snippet, if a user finds it good he will click on the link and find out more information. But if your Meta Description is too short or too large and is not written correctly then there is a chance for ignoring your site by the users. Meta description should be within 155-160 characters and should not exceed 1024 pixels






3)Body tags

html tagswhile writing the content, should type the contents in paragraph with different subtitles it will be flexible for the reader to read the content. For the subtitles, we can use H1, H2,H3, H4, tags.



4)Optimization of keyword

keywordWebsite's content should optimized in such a way that it should be suitable for both search engines and readers. Stuffing too many keywords can make your site unreadable. Decide which keyword should be optimized, only after researching on that. Maintain optimum keyword density. 



5)Optimization of links


link optimizationLink optimization is very important. It will give a good experience for the users. They can use the link if they have any doubts on that particular word or sentence. But do not add so many links, it will considered as link spamming.

6)Image optimization

image optimizationIf the site has lot of images, they should be optimized since search engines are not able to read the images. Search Engine spiders can only read text but not images. So we need to do some optimization techniques. Add ALT text, it describes the image when  mouse moves over the image on the web page. While saving the file from internet use meaningful name.  If we want to add a link for the image, use the image keywords.

The history and evolution of SEO comes only after the invention of internet, websites and search engines. Let's see it,

The first  prototype of the Internet was founded on 1960 with the creation of ARPANET(Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) by the U.S. Department of Defense. The world's first website born on 6th august 1991, the man behind the website was Tim Berners Lee. After that invention so many websites were born with different contents and functions. Eventually internet became crowded by those websites. Search engine platforms like Excite was founded on 1993 and made finding the information easier  by sorting search results based on keywords within the content of  the website.

These search engines simplified the data indexing methods  and made the information on search more easier than Excite In this initial state of search engine optimization practice, webmasters and business men used keyword stuffing, content spamming(spamdexing), link spamming etc. to leverage their websites and to increase rankings in search. In that time today's search engine giant Google start thinking about the opportunities for connecting users to perfect contents for their search on Google and starts working on that to implement the rules and conditions  we have today.

In the era of unethical SEO practices, in-order to stop the unethical practices Google decided to share some of their  search ranking tactics. Google's 'SEO starter guide' contains those details. Then Google takes some updations to increase the quality of the search results. The first updation was for the quality of the content. That is known as content specific search engine or niche specific search engine. This updation helps to reduce the keyword stuffing practices. Next updation was about links that is known as link specific search engine. Then Google made some modifications on that and updates it as quality link specific search engine. That is in order to get high ranking websites should have links from highly ranked websites, this updation reduces the link stuffing practice. But this creates another problem, website with higher page ranking starts to sell links and local websites were  ready to buy and increase their ranking.

In-order to stop this practice Google made a condition, that is if a website is providing links to another website the equity and power of that website will be reduced this is called as 'SEO passing juice'.

In 2010 Google come up with a new updation that is ranking based on social media signals and user response. Google's next updation was Google Panda this updation was made to prevent content spamming. There are different kind of content spamming methods such as content copying, content spinning, spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes, paragraph interchanging etc., Google Panda updation removes these kind of pages. Google Panda is also known as 'The farmer'. Next updation known as Google Penguin, this updation made to prevent different kind of link spamming tactics such as link exchange, link buying, link selling, automatic link generation, URL submission on low quality directories,comment spamming etc. EMD and Parked domain updation were the next two updations both are about domains. EMD stands for exact match domains, large business groups will purchase exact matched domains for their business growth. If they are not using the domains effectively or if there is no positive development in those websites they will not rank and Google will remove those pages.

Google's next updation named as Google Penguin. This updation is very much helpful for local business. Results based on locality will give leverage for local business and industries. GoogleMyBusiness, local directory submission, local address  with phone number and PIN code, Geo tagging etc are using in this updation. Google Hummingbird is the next updation. This updation results in semantic search reasults, personal search results etc. In 2015 an advanced version of HummingBird comes into action that is known as Rank Brain.
